Title: The Forest Remembers

Artist: Manzoor Elahi

Media: Installation Art

Size: 15feet x 8feet

Year: 2019

Concept:

Located in Gazipur, the Sal forest is an important natural ecosystem that is increasingly threatened by industrial development and human intervention. The gradual destruction of the forest is causing the loss of natural habitats and forcing wildlife to disappear from their once-familiar surroundings.

This installation is created as a visual response to the ongoing destruction of the Sal forest. Using found objects collected from the surrounding environment, along with fallen Sal leaves and natural pigments, the work transforms elements of the threatened landscape into an artistic expression.

The use of organic materials reflects the fragility and impermanence of the forest, while the found objects represent the growing presence of human activity and industrialization within the natural environment. By bringing these materials together, the installation creates a dialogue between nature, human intervention, loss, and resistance.

The work functions both as an act of protest and as a call for environmental awareness. It seeks to draw attention to the gradual disappearance of the Sal forest and the wildlife that depends on it, encouraging viewers to reflect on our responsibility to protect natural ecosystems before they are irreversibly lost.
